Do you have a Fan page for your business but don’t know how to get it noticed?
Fan Pages and marketing are fairly new concept for most businesses so don’t worry if you aren’t up to speed.
Here are 5 tips to help bring your Business Page to speed:
1. Don’t Use Inappropriate Applications
Don’t use Face book Applications like Farmville or Mafia Wars. Really, your customers/patients are not interested in the fact that you have found a stray cow! All of those posts are extremely obnoxious and will turn off any business associate fast. With that being said, there may be some Facebook applications that would be appropriate for your business. Take a look at the applications list and you may find one or two that are fitting for your business.
You can also get free applications from Involver.com that will sync your YouTube channel and your Twitter updates with your Face book page.
2. Updating Your Wall
Facebook doesn’t have a 140 character rule like Twitter, but it is wise to follow Twitter’s lead and keep your updates short and sweet.
Keep your updates personal, but professional. Don’t make comments on what you had for lunch. Associate your updates with what is going on with your business.
3. Use Facebook Activities to Engage your Fans
To keep your fans engaged, run a couple of Facebook activities. Ask your fans to do a poll or create a discussion group and listen to what they have to say. It also shows that you care and value their opinion.
Vote in The Michael Jackson National Holiday Poll
Should Michael Jackson get his own national Holiday?
Sending vote…
- Yes
- No
Over 535,795 other people have taken this poll.
To see the results you must vote and approve the application!
4. Avatar
An avatar is an important part of your online representation of yourself, usually a picture of you that shows up in places where you leave comments or forum posts. For your business, this is key – a way to connect with your fans. Check out Starbucks Avator.
5. Keep your page updated
This is the most important tip of all. There are many businesses that got started with a Fan Page, started with some great information and posts and then stopped updating and only go back and do this when they have something new to sell or announce. If you are not able to keep up with your page, let your fans know. Having no time is no excuse. Please keep your Fan Page updated. That’s it.

Have you been in my head lately? This is exactly what I needed!
I’ve been looking for ways to increase participation on my page and you came through with some solid ones. I like the idea of a poll, I think I’m going to see how I can implement that.
One of my favorite apps for pages is “Networked Blogs” which I’m working on a two part article about currently. Its a great little application.
I definitely agree about the avatar. No matter where we go, that avatar needs to be in place, professional, and matching the rest of our profile’s avatars. You want people to start to recognize you by that avatar to create familiarity.
Thanks Jan!

Many people that I run across, really
don’t know how effective fan pages are.
They can help you create a brand around
your company or yourself.
It is important to add value to the community
so that people will actually engage with one
another

Keep your page updated! You aren’t kidding here. I have bumped in to some that had recent posts that were month’s old. Think it might be a great idea to at least let the visitor’s know if you will not be posting for say, conventions, vacations, or whatever and when to expect an update? Otherwise yes
keep it updated
Great tips!

What a great point you make. Yes, some people just don’t need to comment to feel they have participated to the fullest. That’s not their style.
